Both treatment methods have their advantages and disadvantages.
After varnishing, a continuous, highly wear-resistant film layer is created on the surface of the parquet.
This preserves the parquet’s original color while providing long-term (15–20 years) protection. The disadvantage of varnishing is that it slightly diminishes the wood’s natural appearance, and local repairs cannot be performed completely invisibly. In contrast, oiling is the exact opposite of the above.
The oil is almost completely absorbed, giving the wood a beautiful deep tone and fully preserving its natural appearance. Additional benefits include the fact that it doesn’t require sanding during refinishing; instead, after a deep cleaning, it receives a fresh coat of oil and is ready to go. In most cases, this can be done in a single day.
The ability to repair scratches without leaving a trace is also among the benefits. A drawback is its lower wear resistance, but this doesn’t usually cause problems for residential use.
